Mvc-001f.jpg (36108 bytes) 7/18/01 The painting of the interior has begun. The beams, the underboarding and the walls will all be different bright cheery colors. I am sure hue will like it. Simultaneously other workers are unloading our owner supplied items from the storage trailer and organizing the glass block in preparation for installation.

Mvc-003fe.jpg (45835 bytes) 7/11/01 The house is starting to show its true colors. The last coat of paint / protective membrane has been applied to the roof. The parapet will offer a stark contrast via a bright white border just below the roof line. The exterior walls have been plastered and painting is soon to be the order of the day before all the glass block is installed. Meanwhile back at home Dave and Sue are planning a trip to the outlets in North Carolina to purchase the furniture. The substantial completion date of September 10th will be here before we know it!

Construction.jpg (267326 bytes) 6/30/01 through 7/6/01  Nelson and Dave spent a week in paradise. However, not much time to relax. Action at the house is really heating up now that the roof is complete. The interior walls have been plastered, and the exterior was half-done when this photo was taken at the end of the week. Simultaneously, part of the crew is working inside building drop ceilings and wiring the down lighting. Interior painting should begin next week.

The underboarding is complete. On top of the beams goes 3/4 in. treated plywood and tar paper. Next will be 2 coats of a fluid-applied membrane that will catch the water for our cisterns.  The next update will be when Nelson and Dave return from St. Croix. We hope to have some great photos then!

The over boarding is being put on the roof while back at home we are sorting through some decisions regarding electrical fixtures and paint colors. In just 2 weeks from now Nelson and Dave will be on site to personally review the progress and to get wet as well.

Mvc-014f.jpg (63562 bytes) 6/6/01 While it doesn't look like there have been major changes, the electrician has been busy running lots of conduit for the security system. Likewise Glouster's crew is preparing to pour cement for the parapet. This is a structure around the edge of the roof that plays a part in collecting the rain water for our cistern. Meanwhile, we are busy back home preparing a Home Depot order of the remaining owner supplied items that will ship out of Miami at the end of the month.

Mvc-009fa.jpg (67811 bytes) 5/31/01 A lot of progress was made this week. The roof rafters are finished. The custom made sliding glass doors that will allow us to look out on the pool & the sea from the great room and the bedrooms arrived this week. In this photo you can also see that the small sea wall that was damaged a few weeks ago by the down pour has been rebuilt. Next comes the completion of the roof. What do you think of "DIVE FLAG RED" for the color? Any other ideas? Email Dave

DSCN1260.jpg (130213 bytes) 5/24/01 Often the photos sent to us are from Tony Wilson our architect or Chris and Dick our neighbors. However, since Chris and Dick are in Italy for the month our friend Dave Bentley and his son Bo took a cruise over to snap a few for us. The rafters are coming along very quickly as you can see. Also, the collapsed sea wall is being rebuilt.

Mvc-006f.jpg (60146 bytes) 5/11/01 The water also damaged the preparation that had been made to pour footers for the front boundary walls. However, by the end of the week we were back up and running to pour the bond beam as the next step toward beginning the roof.

Mvc-007g.jpg (73733 bytes) 5/4/01 The West boundary wall is progressing nicely while preparations are being made to pour our bond beam in the next day or two. The bond beam will allow for a very strong connection between the walls and the roof.
