St. Croix Water Conditions Water Conditions Average water temperatures are in the mid 80s in summer, dropping to the upper 70s in winter. I wear a thin wet suit year round and just add a hood in the winter when the water is a bit cooler. Visibility can vary between sites depending on currents and plankton. Expect a visibility range of 60 to 100 feet with the best conditions in summer and fall. The good news about the plankton is that it turbo charges a dynamic ecosystem of marine life as diversified as orange cup coral and spotted eagle rays.
